Swastishrimadabhinava Charukeerthy Bhattaraka Mahaswamiji

Jain Matha, Shravanabelagola

Mahaswamiji, originally from Sagar Taluk, Shivamogga district in Karnataka, is the current and 34th head of the Shravanabelagola Jain Mutt. He studied at our college (2018-21), and holds NCC ‘B’ and ‘C’ certificates. After being initiated into monkhood on December 2, 2022 (when his name was Agama Indra), he was anointed as head of the Mutt on March 27, 2023. In his role, he oversees both the religious and administrative affairs of the Shravanabelagola centre — a major pilgrimage site renowned for the monolithic Gomateshwara statue. His leadership continues the long heritage of spiritual guidance and service associated with the institution.

Dr. A. Murugeppa

Dr. A Murugeppa

Rtd. Vice-Chancellor of Kannada University, Hampi

Dr. A. Murigeppa is a distinguished academician, linguist, and administrator who has made remarkable contributions to Kannada language and education. He completed his graduation (B.Sc) from LB & SBS College, Sagar, and later earned multiple postgraduate degrees along with a Ph.D. in Linguistics on the Bidar dialect of Kannada. A prolific scholar, he has authored 11 books and 53 research articles, earning major recognitions such as the Karnataka Nataka Academy Award and the Jayalakshmi Shrinivasayya Sahitya Puraskara. Dedicated to social progress, he supports rural students through the Kayaka Foundation. He has served in top leadership roles at Karnatak University and later as the Vice-Chancellor of Kannada University, Hampi, where he provided visionary academic leadership.

Veteran Journalist & Media Leader

D P Satish graduated from LB & SBS College, Sagar in 1996 with a B.A. in English Literature, Economics and History, and went on to complete a postgraduate degree in Journalism from Asian College of Journalism — where he was class topper and awarded “All-Round Best Student” in 1998. After a brief stint in newspapers, he joined ETV and later became one of the founding members of CNN‑IBN in 2005. He currently serves as Group Editorial Advisor (South India) for Network18, India’s largest media group. Over his 27-year career, Satish has covered major political and social stories across the country and written extensively on diverse topics. Outside of journalism, he cherishes time at his cottage near Jog Falls, where he enjoys farming and village life whenever possible.

Ashok Pai

Chairman, Expert Appraisal Committee, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Govt. of India

He completed his PUC (PCMB) and B.Sc (CBZ) at our college, before earning his M.Sc in Zoology from Manasagangotri with First Rank and two Gold Medals. After briefly teaching Zoology at LB & SBS College, he joined the Indian Forest Service in 1983 and went to serve key roles including Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary in the Govt. of India, and as Principal Secretary, Forests & Environment for Uttarakhand. He retired as Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Uttarakhand. Alongside his service, he earned postgraduate degrees in Forestry and Management (from MDI Gurgaon), and an MBA from University of New South Wales, Australia. He currently serves as Chairman, Expert Appraisal Committee, Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Govt. of India — a testament to his enduring commitment to environmental conservation and public service.

Mr. H. Halappa Harathalu

Former MLA - Sagar Constituency

A distinguished alumnus of our college, Hartalu Halappa completed his B.Com at LB & SBS College during 1979–1984. Over his career, he has served multiple terms as a member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, representing the Hosanagar constituency (2004–2008), Sorab (2008–2013), and Sagar (2018–2023). Between 2008 and 2010, he held a key position in the state government as the Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs in the cabinet of B. S. Yeddyurappa. Beyond politics, from 2020 to 2023 he served as Chairman of MSIL, demonstrating leadership across public service and corporate governance. His journey stands as an inspiring example of dedication, versatility, and commitment — a true source of pride for our college community.

Mr. V. Sunil Kumar

Former MLA - Karkala Constituency

A prominent politician from Karnataka representing the BJP as the MLA from Karkala constituency. He completed his degree from LB & SBS College, Sagar. He began his public-life journey through the student wing of the RSS and entered electoral politics in 2004. Over the years, he has been elected multiple times from Karkala, and served as Chief Whip of the BJP government in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He held the portfolios of Energy and Kannada & Culture Minister (2021-23). In 2020 he was appointed Co-incharge of the BJP’s Kerala affairs. His consistent electoral success and ministerial service underline his commitment to public service and regional development.

Suo Ma Saleem studied at LB&SBS College, Sagar. During his degree, he actively served as an NCC Cadet and demonstrated exceptional discipline and leadership qualities. He was honoured with the prestigious Golden Standard of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, presented by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. His dedication towards community service, teamwork, and personal development has always been commendable. He consistently represented the college in various NCC activities, upholding values of integrity and responsibility. Suo Ma Saleem continues to inspire fellow students through his achievements and strong commitment towards nation-building values.

Nuthan H D

Captain Nuthana H. D.

Captain, 20 KAR Bn NCC

Captain Nuthana H. D. completed his B.A. from LB & SBS College, Sagar in 2006. In 2009, he joined our institution as a Lecturer in Economics and soon became an integral part of the academic community. His dedication to discipline and youth development led him to take charge as NCC Caretaker in 2015. Recognizing his commitment, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2017, and later achieved the distinguished rank of Captain in 2024. He continues to serve with passion, inspiring students through his leadership, service, and strong contributions to both academics and NCC training.
